Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Lowell!
It’s December, and students are frantically getting ready for finals. Additionally, seniors are busy submitting college applications to prepare for their future, a process that comes with excitement as well as anxiety. During this time of high stress, many people fall on coping mechanisms, which can unfortunately lead to the perpetuation of unhealthy behavior patterns. Our cover story highlights the experiences of students struggling with eating disorders. We understand that this is an incredibly delicate topic, and wanted to raise awareness about the many ways in which this complex and harmful condition can affect Lowell students. For this reason, we want to warn potential readers to proceed with caution, as this article includes references to eating disorders and may trigger people who have struggled with them in the past.
Our editorial for this magazine is centered around the impacts of ICE on San Francisco residents and students. Although we believed that this issue would warrant a feature story containing interviews with students who are affected by ICE and have concerns about it, we ultimately decided to make this topic an editorial due to concerns that interviews could put Lowell students and their families at risk. This issue is an incredibly concerning one that is already having destructive impacts on our community; we want to encourage our readers to educate themselves on how to keep themselves and others safe.
We are incredibly proud of our latest issue and we can’t wait for you to read it. From all of us at The Lowell, happy holidays!
