SBC Dance Coordinator Voter’s Guide
The Dance Coordinator is in charge of organizing everything for the dances including the venue, DJ, food, and decorations.
Maria Herrera, Sophomore
What do you think makes you qualified for this position?
Last year I had my quinceanera, which if people don’t know what it is a girl’s fifteenth birthday party. My mom and I kind of did not realize how much of a job it would be. We didn’t do it last minute but I did have to help her out with finding the venue, the DJ, everything that came with having the party. With La Raza we also helped with this years homecoming, a Night in Havana, so I got to see what Aracely did, I thought it was pretty cool.
If you get elected, what would you do to benefit the Lowell community?
I know that not a lot of people have the same music taste. I do want to make sure everyone can enjoy the dances and if that means adding more music that will make the dances better. Obviously I want them to still be upbeat and fun because that’s the whole point of a dance, but I do want more people to feel comfortable dancing if that makes sense.
Kelly Liu, Junior
What do you think makes you qualified for this position?
I think my experience on Junior Prom Committee prepared me for this role. For the past year and a half, I worked closely with nine other members in order to plan this dance, and it finally happened last Saturday and it was a great success. Along the way, we encountered some problems, and because we were able to solve these problems, that experience prepared me to take on the role as a dance coordinator.
If you get elected, what would you do to benefit the Lowell community?
If I did get elected I would just dedicate my time and use my experience in order to make these dances better. I’ve been to many of these dances and I know what makes the dances fun and what people like about them, and I’ll put in my own feedback to make these dances better.
Mandera Silvestro, Junior
What do you think makes you qualified for this position?
I think that I am qualified because I think I’m able to bring something different into being SBC Dance coordinator. I’ve noticed that most of the dances are simply sometimes repeated. I am the BSU Co-President so I have experience with responsibility and organizing and everything and being a leader. So I feel like I am a perfect candidate for someone who wants their voices heard.
Being dance coordinator you have to be up to fulfilling everyone’s needs in the best way possible. I feel like just because you are dance coordinator you shouldn’t be the one to call everything based on your belief or based on what you want. I feel like you have to have really good communication and you need to also think outside the box, not just inside of the box, and you also need to be different, because being different catches peoples attention.
If you get elected, what would you do to benefit the Lowell community?
If I get elected, what I would bring to the Lowell community is being open, willingness of taking other people’s thoughts and concerns and wants and needs. Being different you know, showing something new, thinking outside the box. Those qualities I definitely would bring to the Lowell community. I definitely want to do more community type things, not just telling people ‘Oh, we’re going to have this theme.’ I want other people’s opinions on what they want so that I can give it to them in every best way possible.
