Track runs the field against the Buccaneers, Bears and Mustangs

With the firing of the starting pistol, the track and field team competed against the Balboa Buccaneers, Mission Bears, and Lincoln Mustangs on April 13 at SOTA.

The frosh-soph girls’ performed well at the meet, placing in multiple events. In the 400m dash, freshman Janelle Lo and freshman Isabelle Sam placed second and third, with times of 64.43 and 66.42, respectively.

In the 100m event, freshman Simone Felton and sophomore Emily Liu took second and third with times of 13.15 and 13.32.

In the 800m run, freshmen Megan Ma and Faith Delapena placed second and third, with times of 2:48.91 and 2:49.80, respectively.

In the 300m intermediate hurdles, sophomore Zinnia Finn and Sam took first and second with times of 52.51 and 53.52, respectively.

Lastly, Felton and freshman Paula Ejarque Juste took second and third in the 200m dash, with times of 28.25 and 30.01, respectively.

The frosh-soph boys also performed. In the 400m event, freshman Godfrey Obiero placed third, 55.91. Obiero also placed first in the 200m dash, 24.59.

In the 100m dash, sophomore Jovin Cheung and freshman Jason Tsui placed first and second with times of 11.71 and 11.96, respectively.

In the 800m run, freshman Norton Choy came first with a time of 2:18.48.

Varsity girls also excelled in multiple events. In the 1,600m run, freshman Emi Steedman, and juniors Monica Cao and Mariann Guzman placed first, second and third, with times of 6:14.79, 6:55.15 and 7:07.67, respectively.

In the 400m dash, juniors Carey Lee, Lorelei Vaisse and Kaila Wong took first, second and third, with times of 66.54, 69.92, 72.37, respectively.

In the 100m dash, sophomore Kathleen Mai, junior Eva Pak and senior Vanessa Tan placed first, second and third with times of 12.69, 13.37 and 13.77. Mai also took first in the 200m event, 27.32.

In the 800m run, juniors Lena O’Grady, Elena Cawthon and Brittney Dare took first, second and third, with times of 2:40.24, 2:54.58 and 3:05.89, respectively.

Varsity boys did not fall behind in the meet and placed in several events. In the 1600m event, junior Robert Clarke placed third with a time of 5:05.27.

In the 400m dash, junior Linus Ng placed second with a time of 54.82.

In the 100m dash, senior William Mai took second with a time of 11.06, and took first in the 200m event, 23.47.

In the 800m run, junior Robert Clarke placed second, 2:21.33.

In the 300m intermediate hurdles, senior Jefferson Rubio took second, 46.47.

The Lowell track and field team will have their next meet at SOTA against the Mission Bears, Burton Pumas and Galileo Lions on April 27, 3:30 p.m.
