Today, May 3, Lowell’s choir will have their final performance of the year, their Spring Concert. For seniors Kathleen Ban and Anthony Giang, this will be the final choir concert in their high school careers. “I want my last [concert] at Lowell to go out with a bang,” Giang said. “This is the first time I’m singing a solo song in a choir concert, which adds to the pressure, but I am excited to give a wonderful performance.”
The upcoming Spring Concert has prompted Ban to reflect on the community that she has gained from participating in Lowell’s choir. “I can’t express enough how much choir as a whole has made a positive impact on my life,” she said. “It feels like time flew by so fast. There are so many people I will miss in the future.” Giang cites the social environment as a major factor in his love for choir. “Being able to bond with the choir members outside of school at karaoke, restaurants, and other places is something I’ll never forget,” Giang said. “I hope to maintain these relationships as I go on to do incredible things in the future.”
Both Ban and Giang wish to continue pursuing their passion for music, both as a career and hobby, while in college. “Up to now, choir has been part of my life, and there’s no reason for it to stop,” Giang said. “I want to do singing as a career in the future, so being in choir will help me reach that goal.” Ban has found joy through choir, and wishes to continue exploring her talents after graduating. “After [finding] my passion in choir, I want to join an acapella group and live my “Pitch Perfect” dream,” she said.
While the Spring Concert represents the end of their high school choir experience, Ban and Giang are excited to end the year with a celebration of the choir’s talents. “It feels like I’m parting from a family I’ve been a part of for so long,” Ban said. “However, I’m very excited for people to see how much we’ve improved, and the new songs we’ve been working on.”
The Spring Choir Concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the Carol Channing Theater.
