Golf team sinks another win

The varsity boys golf team defeated the Burton Pumas with a score of 234–310 on April 17 at Lincoln Golf Course. The team is currently first in the Academic Athletic Association with a record of 4–0.

The top two scorers were senior co-captain Joshua Lim, who scored a 38, and freshman Ethan Fong, who scored a 47.

Even though boys’ golf won the game, head coach Juan Lopez felt that the team wasn’t able to reach their full potential. “We didn’t get a chance to practice the day before because it was raining so we didn’t get much prep time for the match,” Lopez said.

Lopez also shared that the team’s score was not ideal due to the absence of an experienced player. “One of my guys had hurt his wrist the day before, so my second top golfer didn’t get to play. That’s why our scores weren’t that good,” he said. “That was kind of a challenge for the team and I had to put someone else in, and that was their first time out on the course.”

“The results were expected. We were happy about the results, but just not surprised.”

Despite these challenges, the team had a positive attitude going into the game. “Burton isn’t usually that strong, so we were pretty confident that we were going to win the game,” Lim said. “The results were expected. We were happy about the results, but just not surprised.”

Their next game will be against the Balboa Buccaneers at 3:30 p.m. on April 26 at Lincoln Golf Course.
