There are good teachers and there are bad teachers, but that fact does not seem to affect the decision of who receives a pink slip. During this economic slump, jobs are insecure, and many teachers are being threatened with release or relocation. To the dismay of many students in the San Francisco Unified School District, some of their favorite teachers have received pink slips, while other less effective teachers are allowed to stay because of tenure and seniority.

If the Major League Baseball Players Association has its way, the 2011 All-Star game will not take place in Phoenix, Arizona. The MLBPA has joined dozens of other organizations in protesting that state’s recent controversial law.

The second you get home from an exhausting day at school, its awfulness magnified by your nagging math teacher or pop quizzes in your English class, you flop down on the couch to finally relax and aimlessly reach for the remote on your end table. When you finally hit the power button, you don't hear the catchy beat of your favorite music video, instead you’re bombarded with the flashy images of ethnically diverse women, modeling for the latest Dove commercial.

If our nation were to get a grade on our election turnouts, it would be a big red F. We're reminded by the scolding pundits that we are supposed to be the greatest democracy in the world, yet so many of us, especially teens, don't bother to exercise one of our greatest rights: the right to vote. The youth vote is the most elusive quarry in United States politics, but also the most sought after. A simple way to gain the favor of youth voters is to change the election day.

Dear Editor,
Every Friday as we are collecting the school's recycling, we are sad to see that even in 2010, people do not know what should and should not go into the recycing bin.
As we empty the blue classroom recycling bins, we notice the half-eaten food and empty chip wrappers that fill the sticky and consideration for our beautiful planet.

Dear Editor,
I have so many questions! This is like Dear Abby, right? You’ll help me fix all my problems, allay my concerns, answer my queries, tickle my fancy, butter my toast and balance my checkbook? Great! Well let’s go: How does the Dewey Decimal System work? Is it weird for my cousin to date my mom’s ex-boyfriend? Can zombies swim? Should I be concerned about the fact that my smart phone may be smarter than I am? How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop? Why can’t I own a Canadian? What’s the capital of Yemen? What are the chances of a chicken making it all the way across the road without getting hit by a car? Is anyone still reading this? Enough questions, time for an awkward seque.
As this is my last (and really only) chance to address Lowell High and the senior class (2010!), here are some words of wisdom: wear sunscreen, never inviate Russia and always follow your dreams. You may get lost, but at least you’ll be going somewhere.
